Transition of Rev. Jeane B. Williams, former Connectional AMEWIM President

It is with heavy hearts that Connectional AME Women in Ministry announces the transition of The Reverend Doctor Jeane B. Williams, former Connectional AME/WIM President, from labor to reward on Saturday, April 4, 2020.

Rev. Dr. Jeane B. Williams was born in 1931 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and raised in Southern New Jersey.

Upon answering the call to preach, she was initially ordained by the National Association of Community Churches. After attending the Philadelphia Annual Conference Ministerial Training Institute, she was ordained an Itinerant Deacon (1978) and later an Itinerant Elder (1980).

Rev. Dr. Williams served in a Pastoral capacity and as the first elected Connectional President of AME Women in Ministry from 1980-1984. Upon Superannuation, she served on the ministerial staff of Mt. Zion AME Church, Devon, PA.

Rev. Dr. Williams was employed as a Library Circulation Administrator for Biddle Law Library at The University of Pennsylvania; as a Library Service Assistant for the Medical Library; and as an Assistant Librarian for the Communications Library, the University of Pennsylvania throughout her professional secular career. She was also, Director of the Bureau of Research and History and the Historiographer for both the 1st Episcopal District of the A.M.E. Church and the Philadelphia Annual Conference of the A.M.E. Church.

Rev. Dr. Williams was predeceased by her husband. She leaves to cherish her legacy two sons, one daughter, one daughter-in-law, three grandchildren, four great- grandchildren and generations of women in ministry.
