Wilberforce University Honors Bishop E. Anne Henning-Byfield and Dr. Joseph Turner
Wilberforce, OH – February 13, 2025 – Wilberforce University proudly commemorated the lives and legacies of the late Bishop E. Anne Henning-Byfield, the 135th elected and consecrated Bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, and the late Dr. Joseph Turner, Vice President and CEO of United Electronics, Inc., during the university’s 169th Founders Day Convocation.
A highlight of the occasion was the official announcement of the university’s newest building, now named Byfield-Turner Hall, in honor of these two esteemed individuals. This tribute recognizes their enduring contributions to their communities, their professions, and Wilberforce University.
Bishop Henning-Byfield’s family, including her spouse, Supervisor Ainsley Byfield, and her sister, Yvonne Henning Parks, attended the ceremony to accept the award on her behalf. Likewise, Dr. Turner’s spouse, Mrs. Mabel Turner, and his brother, Mr. Turner, were present to accept the award in his honor. Despite inclement weather, many family members, friends, and university supporters gathered to celebrate their lasting impact.
A distinguished graduate of Wilberforce University, Bishop Henning-Byfield also served as Chancellor of her alma mater. Her unwavering dedication to the African Methodist Episcopal Church and her lifelong commitment to service continues to inspire countless individuals.
Byfield-Turner Hall stands as a testament to the profound influence that Bishop Henning-Byfield and Dr. Turner had on their respective fields and communities. Their legacies will endure through the students, faculty, and future leaders who walk its halls.
